Aquarium Field Trip Deadline
 The Downtown Aquarium, May 6th,

Cost: $4.00 per student / $11.95 per adult (1 free adult for every 5 students)

Dive into one million gallons of fun right in the heart of downtown Denver, and discover the hundreds of species awaiting your arrival. The Downtown Aquarium is a world-class aquariumwhere guests will be immersed in the wonders of water through the Great American Wilderness and the Rainforests of the World. Visit the adventure exhibits including North America, In the Desert, Under the Sea, At the Wharf, The Rainforest, Coral Lagoon, Sunken Temple, Shipwreck, and At the Beach.

The Aquarium is located at 700 Water St. Denver, CO 80211. Parking is located across the street from the aquarium and is free for school groups. (We’ll need to validate our tickets) No outside food or drink is allowed, but there is a restaurant on site, and a park where you can eat a picnic lunch is just a short walk away.

Located in Denver’s City Park, the Zoo’s main entrance is on 23rd Avenue between Colorado Boulevard and York Street. The address is 2300 Steele Street, Denver, CO 80205.

Meet at the gate to get your ticket and enter as a group, then stroll the zoo at your own pace. It’s open until 5 p.m. and parking is free. There are places to buy food, or you can bring a picnic lunch. For the safety of the animals, please do not bring straws, or glass containers. Feeding of the animals is not allowed, but take as many pictures as you like.

  Due to the Church Ladies’ Luncheon,
Please take note of the following facility changes for this week:
 The Main Table and fellowship tables will be set up in a hallway that has outside access from the North side of the church. 
We will not be using the Main Entrance/Foyer, so please do not enter the building through those doors.  
For your convenience, there is a parking lot on the North side of the building!
 Please DO NOT park on the street directly in front of the building, as the food bank volunteers, some of them quite elderly, park in that area.
At lunchtime, everyone will be asked to enter the gym through the back doors and remain in the gym during lunch.  If you wish to leave the building during lunch, please exit through the North facing doors.

A Note about Lunch Hour

Please keep your children in the gym during lunch. No food is to be taken to any other parts of the church! In addition, your children must be under your complete supervision at all times. Please give the cleaning crew a break and clean up after yourself. We really appreciate your help with this.

This is the last order of the 2009 – 2010 school year. Also, there are a limited number of “Clifford the Big Red Dog” book marks available for the students (whether they place an order or not). Stop by the table to place an order and/or get a book mark.

Moms In Touch

This year at FACE, there has been a prayer time for moms first hour.  I have been reading Psalms during this time and most of the chapters I have been drawn to reference hard times with praise to God being the eventual outcome.

May all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace.  May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha! Aha!” turn back because of their shame.  But may all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You.  You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, do not delay.

May we find peace in the Father this week.  May we be strengthened by His love and mercy.  May we support and pray for each other, and may our words be full of grace.

The following is a message from a FACE mom whose daughter is graduating this year: 

I was wondering if you could send out a message to the FACE families and see if anyone is interested in picking up extra cash from time to time. I am in need of a couple of people who could come into my house and sit with my parents on occasion. Ideally, I would love to get a list of several people who I could call from time to time. It would be a great opportunity for a mom or a college student to earn some extra cash. I ,of course, would pay them a nice wage and the work would be very simple.(Usually 2-4 hours at $15.00/hr and I would pay a min of 2 hours).  Mainly, it is just sitting in the house and making sure nothing happens like the house burning down, etc…It would not include any of hands-on/nursing care.

I especially am going to need someone during the graduation dates of May 22 and May 29th. Interested parties could contact me at home (303-428-4971) Thanks!

Sewing Class For Moms

Denver Museum of Nature and Science Field Trip

Body World and Expedition Health Exhibits

6^th grade & up, Limit 35

Details:  Please read the Content Advisory before you sign up your children.  It is also my understanding that the exhibits could show the Plastinates genitals.  This is why I have set the age for Middle and High School.  This is considered, by the Museum, a student tour, so we need to keep the ratio of students to adults, higher for students.  That means, if we have too many adults signed up for the tour, it will not be considered a student tour and the price increases significantly.  Thus, if this happens, I will have to cut the needed number of adults from the list. 

Reservations are for both Body Worlds (1:30) and the Expedition Health (3pm)

BODY WORLDS & The Story of the Heart, an all-new exhibition, will reveal — through the lenses of anatomy, cardiology, psychology and culture — how the heart nourishes, regulates and sustains life. The exhibition will give Museum visitors profound insight into the human body, health and disease, and the intricate world of the cardiovascular system. The exhibition will awe visitors with more than 200 human specimens, including whole-body plastinates, organs and translucent body slices.

Each exhibition is designed to teach us what our bodies look like on the inside and how they function by using real human bodies from individual donors. BODY WORLDS & The Story of the Heart exhibition focuses on human health, including how our bodies break down when we smoke or don’t eat well. Plastinates of the human body show details of how the body is designed to move, respiration, reproduction, the skeletal, locomotive, nervous and cardiovascular systems. 

CONTENT ADVISORY

The Museum is recommending this exhibition for schoolchildren in grades 5 and above. Given the nature of the exhibition, it is up to the parents, guardians or school staff to decide whether their children are at the appropriate age to attend BODY WORLDS. The exhibition contains whole-body specimens that have no skin, enabling the visitor to see the bones, muscles, tendons, nerves, organs, and blood vessels. Eyes and reproductive organs remain in many of the plastinates. Written descriptions accompany all specimens. This exhibition features a separate area containing specimens, such as embryos and fetuses, that document prenatal development. Visitors may choose whether or not to view this area. We suggest that you read the contents of the Educators and Family Guides before visiting for helpful tips and more information for visiting the exhibition with children.

Expedition Health is not simply another exhibit about the human body. Expedition Health is about YOUR human body—how it is constantly changing and adapting in ways you can see, measure, and optimize through the choices you make.

In the exhibition gallery, visitors will experience highly-interactive, highly-personalized activities, immerse themselves in a theater experience that will engage all of their senses, look at microscopic cells from their own bodies in a laboratory, participate in live demonstrations and programs, and meet new “buddies” who will help them learn about their health.

There is a Talent Show Dress Rehearsal
Tuesday, March 16th, at 12:45pm in the chapel.
This rehearsal is mandatory for those who want to perform!

There will be a sign-up available starting March 9, for Talent Show
& Dress Rehearsal at the Main Table. 
What you must have for Dress Rehearsal:
* – Music or musician that will accompany you (CD’s or tapes), the title of your song, who it was written by, etc…
* – Dressed in your entire costume, from head to toe!
* – If you are playing an instrument, the piece you are playing, with the title and the composer.

The purpose of a dress rehearsal is to determine the information necessary for programs, determine what stage equipment is needed and to get a general idea of the line up. 

Have fun preparing for this event.  Please keep in mind that your audience will encompass all ages, so please keep   costumes modest and music appropriate.

The Art of Racing in the Rain ~ by Garth Stein 

If you’ve ever wondered what your dog is thinking, Stein’s third novel offers an answer. Enzo is a lab terrier mix plucked from a farm outside Seattle to ride shotgun with race car driver Denny Swift as he pursues success on the track and off. Denny meets and marries Eve, has a daughter, Zoë, and risks his savings and his life to make it on the professional racing circuit. Enzo, frustrated by his inability to speak and his lack of opposable thumbs, watches Denny’s old racing videos, coins koanlike aphorisms that apply to both driving and life, and hopes for the day when his life as a dog will be over and he can be reborn a man. When Denny hits an extended rough patch, Enzo remains his most steadfast if silent supporter. Enzo is a reliable companion and a likable enough narrator, though the string of Denny’s bad luck stories strains believability. Much like Denny, however, Stein is able to salvage some dignity from the over-the-top drama.
 We will meet to discuss this book on Tuesday, March 16th at 11am (Northglenn Atlanta Bread / 104th & I-25).

TESTING INFORMATION 

  It’s that time of year to think about testing for your children.  FACE requires that all students in odd numbered grades, starting in 3rd grade, to be tested or be evaluated.  Many families like to test their children each year – you don’t have to wait for an odd numbered grade to get a test!  We have tests available from K-12th grade, with several options to choose from (see below).

Please contact Cindy at 303-204-5191or cindy@faceschool.org to sign up for the proctored test or for any questions about testing.  Take-home tests can either be ordered at the website or by contacting Cindy.

*CAT 6 Complete Battery Plus: This is an achievement test (which tells you what your child knows), which you may administer to your children at home. The cost for all materials, including scoring and official report is $29.

 *InView: This is a cognitive test, which helps you know what your child is capable of learning.  It is optional, at an additional $10 to the test above.  It is available for children in 2nd-12th grades.

 *IOWA Test:  This is another widely used test.  There are additional requirements that must be met in order to administer this test.  The administrator must hold a 4 year degree or a teacher’s license.  Cost of the IOWA is $42.

 *CogAT: This is the cognitive test that can be given with the IOWA. The cost is an additional $16 to the IOWA test.

 Group (Proctored) Testing:  We will offer a proctored IOWA test on May 5 and May 6.  The cost for group testing is $62 (basic test) or $78 (basic plus CogAT).

 Stress-Free Evaluation: This evaluation is administered by Kordee Rose.  The cost is $55. Please sign up for an appointment at the table on Fridays or contact Cindy at cindy@faceschool.org.
