FUN PHOTOGRAPHY FOR KIDS

  Class Description: Introducing photography to younger students. This class will be hands on which will involved taking pictures every week in the classroom. We will “step-up” little shoots in the courtyard or classroom to get students comfortable on how to use their cameras. I will be using a theme based structure which includes vocabulary, camera basics, and creativity. For example; in September we will discuss going back to school, harvest, and autumn. On a monthly basis we will make cards and art projects with the pictures they have taken.

NOTE****Due to the age group, Parent participation is mandatory in this class. Each week parents will be required to bring in items from their home so the students can photograph them. Notification will be sent out on a weekly basis and it will be common things around the house, like plants, or stuffed animals, toys etc. Students will need to have prints made of their pictures for card making and craft day monthly.

Approximate hours of homework per week: 1-2

Prerequisites for this class: Able to follow directions and can use scissors. Bring camera to class each week.

Class is appropriate for grades: 2^nd – 5^th grade

Materials to be supplied by the student:

Craft materials and photo books for each student.

One-time fee for this class: $10

PHOTOGRAPHY I

Class Description:

Learn the mechanics of photography. I will be teaching out of the book, Basic 35mm Photo Guide for beginning photographers by Graig Alesse and Photoshop Elements 7 book for digital photographers by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski. Once a month we will go on a fieldtrip to downtown or in the mountains for a photo shoot (This will be separate from the Tuesday school schedule). At the end of each month we will have a photo critique where students can submit up to three photos. The critique will be based upon the bylaws of the Colorado Council of photographers. This class will be a great place to learn about how a camera works, their lenses, and how to edit photos digitally. Our critiques will encourage and inspire each of us to find the glory of God in His creation.

Approximate hours of homework per week:  10

Prerequisites for this class:

That they have a camera and the ability to edit their work digitally. Having the use of Photoshop, Photoshop Lightroom, or Photoshop Elements Laptop preferable but not required. Students will need to submit printed photos for critique each month.

Class appropriate for grades: 6^th grade and up

Camera and the use of photo editing software

One-time fee for this class: $10

PHOTOGRAPHY II

Class Description:

Taking photography to the next level. Intended for those that took Photography I, this class will challenge and stretch the student to grow in their creative process. Each week the students will be given a homework assignment to take pictures from bold color, architectural shapes, water, portraits, sunrises, to sunsets. This class will engage the student to look at the world from many different perspectives. With a new project each week, students will be given the chance to dabble in photojournalism, architectural, floral, landscape, portrait, and many more different types of photography styles. This class is for the students that are passionate about photography. Turning in photos each week is MANDATORY for critique and discussion. I will be using two different books; 50 Photos Projects by Lee Frost and Visual Poetry by Chris Orwig.

Approximate hours of homework per week:  5-10

Prerequisites for this class:

Student has taken Photography I or have the equivalent experience.

Class is appropriate for grades: 8^th grade and up

Materials to be supplied by the student: Camera, and Photo editing software is mandatory

One-time fee for this class: $10

The one-time fee is for: Books and class supplies
